The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office issued the citation Wednesday night after Gianforte was accused of attacking a reporter for The Guardian newspaper on the eve of his special election. Sheriff Brian Gootkin said the reporter's injuries from the alleged assault, which was backed up by witness accounts and an audio recording, were not severe enough to warrant a felony charge.
